The Ordinary Radical

I just heard this quote from one of my new favorite people, Shane Claiborne. It’s out of his book, Irresistible Revolution. His latest book, Jesus For President, is very high on my to-read list.

“When the church becomes a place of brokerage rather than an organic community, she ceases to be alive. She ceases to be something we are, the living bride of Christ. The church becomes a distribution center, a place where the poor come to get stuff and the rich come to dump stuff. Both go away satisfied (the rich feel good, the poor get clothed and fed), but no one leaves transformed.”

I highly recommend you listen to the talk he gave at Mars Hill Bible Church, entitled Finding Your Calcutta. Download mp3 here.

Noticed Your Heart?

My dad always says, “The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart.”

What if we could step back and look our hearts. Not our physical hearts like Jennifers, but our hub for love and innermost feelings. What would we see? Is it thriving? Full of life? Or is it black and bruised?

“Seeing my heart for the first time is an emotional and surreal experience. It caused me so much pain and turmoil when it was inside me.” —Jennifer

Have you ever noticed your heart before? If you have pain and turmoil in your heart, the only way to fix it is a total heart transplant. Change it from the inside out, and enjoy a life of freedom. I know a good surgeon.

**UPDATE**
A new article from RelevantMagazine.com just popped into my RSS reader about this very subject. Imagine that. The writer knows the surgeon as well.

Symptoms for a Bruised Heart

I hurt, ache and want a lobotomy to stop hearing his words of pursuit and desire, to stop places and songs from reminding me of the joy that wasn’t meant to be…
