Everybody has a MySpace these days! I even found out my buddy Blake had one. One of his blog entries was entitled ‘My Story’ and I liked it so well I thought I’d reproduce it here. Finding our own faith is something we should all strive to do. Hey, and if you’ve got a couple bucks, buy his album too. It’s good stuff!
Well I grew up in a good Christian home! Mom and dad where awesome! The only problem was it wasn’t my faith it was theirs! So I grew up knowing all the bible stories and even theology but never knew what I was to truly have a personal relationship with God! So two years after I graduated from H.S. I hit rock bottom (I was doing the party thing). At the same time a friend of the family, who was a missionary in Kenya, came home and one day asked me if I was interested in playing guitar in a worship band that he was starting (I was in Rock bands all thru school) and so finally after him bugging me over and over I said yes! I went to the first practice and we played all these worship songs I had never heard (see I grew up in a denomination that had no instrumental music and so as a musician my gift and God just didn’t fit!). After the practice he gathered us around and we all prayed.
This moment changed my life! He stopped praying looked at me and said, “Blake are you dealing with the burden of living up to your parents?” It hit me like a semi-truck! That’s exactly what I was dealing with! See my parents have sin, and I know that now, but growing up I never even heard them swear! How could I live up to that after all the things I had done! He said God wants you to know that he made you to be you, that he loves you the way you are, and he has plans for you! Well the following days where, to say the least, amazing!
God was so close! (I get emotional just recounting the story! LOL) So that’s was the beginning of my race! I pray that God blesses you and your family! Oh, one more thing, read Psalms 118 verse 16 – that sums up my story!
What’s your story?
