As we enter the crazy Christmas shopping season, be sure to check out this Morgan Spurlock produced film coming out November 16. Morgan is the one who brought us Supersize Me and 30 Days.
The film focuses on the issues of the commercialization of Christmas, materialism, the over-consumption in American culture, globalization, and the business practices of large corporations, as well as their economic and cultural effects on American society, as seen through the prism of activist/performance artist Bill Talen, who goes by the alias of “Reverend Billy.”
Makes me smile to know that our church is labeling this Christmas as Radical Christmas. Radical in that we are committing to buying less this year, and using the money we would have spent to build a well in Africa. We even had a young girl (9 years old I think) break her piggy bank and donate her entire savings of $150 to the cause.
