I just wrapped a quick little book called Rules of the Red Rubber Ball: Find and Sustain Your Life’s Work by Kevin Carroll. It’s been deemed an adult’s version of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Newsweek.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. It’s simple and creative and very inspirational. He uses a red rubber ball as an metaphor for our passions. Kevin encourages us to chase our passions, and to strive for excellence in the things we do—at all times. There’s a quote at the beginning of the book that sums up nicely what he’s saying…
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” —James Michener
