It’s never a bad time to admit openly and publicly that I, The Original Mud Puppy, am the KING of sinners.

19 years old and counting.
On this date in 1988, in this small church in Rosebud, Arkansas, I publicly demonstrated my commitment to God. As I’ve mentioned many times before, I haven’t always been perfect, but I am always pressing on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

What Happens In A Moment by C.A. Muncey on relevantmagazine.com
So many theological concepts teach us that we are a fallen people, broken and subject to total depravity. I have to admit that a part of me really resonates with the piece of the gospel that tells me I am not perfect. And though being reminded of my imperfection seems like a good idea, it doesn’t always feel like the most empowering way to live life. I understand and agree that we are an imperfect people and that is an important part of human identity, but aren’t we supposed to rise up and fight it? And though there is imperfection within these human walls, there too is perfection. If God really does reside within us and God is perfect, are we capable of being perfect too?

The world is small my friends. This week I ran into a blogger (Shane Bertou) that did back to back posts identical to mine. Turns out we also share a few other things—we’re both 31, both been married 7 years, both have a 3 year old son, both have worked in marketing, both have degrees in management, and have both been involved in church planting.
So tonight I’m checking out his blog a little more, and see he has some vlog’s (video blogs). The one he did on confession was so sweet, and timely, that I had to post it here.

I really hate starting the morning off on such a downer. I really am in good spirits today despite bouting with the flu. It’s just that when I read about stuff like this—as well as stories of child abuse of any sort—I have a really hard time wanting any more for these people than for them to rot in hell.
I know that doesn’t mesh too well with me being a Christ follower, but those are just my feelings and I’m not going to lie about it. This quote by this extraordinary woman made me smile quite a bit though…
“I’m quite sure that if it had happened when I was younger, I would have been after him,” she said. “I’m a very strong woman. I’ve been that way my whole life.”
as well as this statement…
“Her hat flew off, but she remained on her feet.”
Did you catch the fact that she was 101 freaking years old? I would have been on the floor crying like a baby.
