How I Roll

If you followed the Brett Favre saga this Summer you can get a good idea of how I saw the existence of this blog. I felt like retiring, but not really. Then I wanted to come back, but just couldn’t do it the same way I did before. I’ll still be the same guy, but with a different playbook. My playbook now will rely heavily on the option.

Twitter
I love Twitter. Especially with the group of friends I’m following. It’s like life is a constant live-blog. Watching big events on television has never been so fun. Follow me here.

Tumblr
This filled my void on the sabbatical and I think it’s going to make this blog better in the long run. Tumblr will be a place I’ll post links, pictures, quotes, and videos that don’t need extra commentary but are too good not to pass along. You can find that here.

Delicious
My online bookmark hub. Simply love it. I should have jumped aboard this train years ago. This will probably be mostly helpful for me, but no doubt some people will find an interest in what I find interesting. You can find those here.

Facebook
I’m slowly falling in love with Facebook. I still don’t use it like I should, but I use it a ton more than I ever used MySpace. I’ve got friends I went to school with 20 years ago adding me as friends. It simply doesn’t get any better than that. Add me as a friend here.

MySpace
This is the Internet Explorer for mac in my eyes. No more updates coming from this guy. It exists now simply as a fishing line for those holdouts not on Facebook yet. Add me as a friend here.

TheMudPuppy.com
This blog will now be a place where I try to hammer out some meaningful posts. I don’t want to be another spoke in the blogging hub, simply regurgitating the same stuff everyone else is doing. I’m sure there will still be some overlap, but I want to be something different than your standard blog.

To make things easier for everyone, the second sidebar to the right has feeds from my Twitter, Tumblr, and Delicious accounts. All three also have RSS feeds if you were so inclined. I hope you enjoy this new playbook as much as I do.

Friend Surge

This is a shameless attempt at a friend surge. I realized this morning that when I twitter, basically my mom and 3 other people are getting it. So take a few seconds and hit me up through all of my social networks.

I could use a friend.

Facebook

If you add me on Facebook

I WILL NOT
• Fight pirates.
• Get into a snowball fight.
• Become a knight.
• Answer a movie quiz.
• Answer that other movie quiz.
• Or THAT movie quiz.
• I’m probably not gonna write on your wall, or my wall, or any of that wall stuff.
• I don’t comment on pictures, or write on message boards.
• I’m probably not going to your event, but thanks for thinking of me. And by thinking of me, I mean blasting the invite to everyone on your friends list.

I WILL
• Be your friend.
• Update my status occasionally.
• Connect my Twitter account to my Facebook status.
• Connect my Blog to my Facebook account.

These rules were adapted from a recent post by Clayton Bell, and also apply to MySpace and VIRBand were written with love. (Basically I’m a blog man, and these accounts exist simply to allow others to find me).

Web 2.0 Goodness

web2.jpg

I think I’m much more open to the thought of Web 2.0 than I was to the thought of Web 1.0. I remember vividly being scared at just the thought of the internet. Mostly because it was such a change, and I was unsure how it worked. But now that Web 2.0 is finding it’s footing, I’m all over it. Actually I’m smack dab in the middle of it already. And so are you if you’re reading this blog. It isn’t as big a deal as it might sound. It’s just a switch of web philosophy from a place you go to get information, to a place you go to interact.

There are a few major players in 2.0 that I’m still not fully taking advantage of. Some I wish I was using more, and some I have zero interest in using.

Facebook — Facebook freaking rocks. My first social networking platform was MySpace, then I grew up and left that behind and joined the grown up version called Facebook. I dabbled in VIRB a bit, but Facebook has the interface and the following that makes it just right for me. I have friends finding me all the time. My only regret is that I don’t really use it. It just sits there like a worm on a hook, catching any fish floating by. I guess if I didn’t have this blog I’d be using it more proactively.

Twitter — I saw this start up awhile ago. I sat back like I do with most things and watched to see if it took off. Well, it’s taking off. Los even pimped it today. The problem is, I have zero interest in using it—either to view others or to post my own. There’s just something ADD about it. Why do I want to know what people are doing all hours of the day? Shouldn’t I be enjoying my life?

Digg — I don’t Digg anything. Well, I’ve dug a couple stories, but they were simply blog posts that I wrote and liked and wanted to see if I could get a wider audience for. I don’t know, it just hasn’t felt like something useful for me. Perhaps I’ll check and see if there are some Digg RSS feeds that might be of interest.

Technorati — Man, I really wish I was more schooled in how to utilize this bad boy. I think I’ve sent them my information and set up an account. I just have no idea about the ins and outs and all the advantages Technorati has to offer. Definitely something I need to look into further.

Flickr — Flickr is another place I technically have an account for, but don’t use at all. I still wonder why I don’t take advantage of this site. Look for some Mud Puppy Flickr’n soon.

What other Web 2.0 goodies should I be taking more advantage of?
