Fathers Matter

Rick Reilly is best known for his back page column in Sports Illustrated. Recently he moved to ESPN where he will contribute to ESPN.com, SportsCenter, as well as a new column called “The Life of Reilly” in ESPN The Magazine. For his first column he chose to write a touching story about his father.

Read his story here.

Jimmy Kimmel is Busted

First you must be familiar with this clip of E:60 Tom Farrey’s “Gotcha!” report on Miguel Tejada’s age (which was uncalled for btw). You’ll then be overjoyed with the following E:60 interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

Seeing The Truth

Last night on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition I got to know Patrick Henry Hughes and his dad. It’s an amazing story, and I want to be as grounded as Patrick. I want to be as selfless as his dad.

Turns out that Patrick will be coming to a church near me soon. I’m pretty sure I’m going to make all efforts to get down there and watch him play, and hear him speak (and hopefully meet a fellow blogger).

He’ll be at Cedar Creek in Perrysburg, Ohio on May 17 & 18.

Anyone want to join me?

That’s Going To Leave A Mark

His name is Jake Brown, and he falls 50 feet & walks away last night at the X-Games 13 Big Air competition. The best footage is at the end of the video. Pay close attention to how far his shoes fly. Crazy!

ESPN: The Walmart of Sports?

I just listened to a great interview with Will Leitch of Deadspin, and Scott Van Pelt of ESPN, on ESPN Radio.

Scott was willing to admit that there is a big segment of the universe that thinks ESPN is actually hurting sports and asks Will, who is the writer/editor of the biggest independent sports blog on the internet, how one might go about fixing what’s wrong with ESPN.

The dialog was both smart and witty at the same time.
