Saturday I was faced with more of lifes tough decisions. I found myself with a free day and many options to choose from. Every option had benefits and cons. The cons mostly being I couldn’t get to the other options. It seems like these same four options are becoming a daily occurence for me and it drives me crazy every time.
1- Taking time to develop relationships with friends. I’m not talking about a small chat on the phone. I’m talking about getting together and spending time together. This is the only way to develop true friendships, yet it’s one of the first to go when choosing our options.
2- Spending some quality time with the family. How often do we shut off the outside world and just enjoy time with our family? Are we always on the run and caught up doing “stuff” (even stuff with the family) that we forget to dedicate specific time just for them?
3- Getting church work done. With a mostly all volunteer army, the church relies on us to get stuff done on our down time from our regular jobs. The jobs keep piling up and the hours in the day keep staying the same.
4- Getting house work done. Same as above, the jobs keep piling up and the hours in the day keep staying the same.
Are these the same that grab you? I’d venture to say nobody would give you a hard time for choosing any of the above options. The challenge comes in striking a balance between them all. Don’t neglect any of them for too long, and don’t feel bad for choosing one over the other on a specific day. Simply choose the one that you need the most and put everything you’ve got into it and don’t look back. Then when the next choice comes around try to make another wise decision.
