Yankees Suck

Feeling pretty lousy this morning after another Cubs loss. I really wish their bats would heat up. They have to win 3 straight now, so the odds aren’t in our favor.

However, I discovered last night that I might possibly find more enjoyment watching anyone beat the Yankees than watching one of my own favorite teams win. Even the rival Indians. Let’s go tribe!

And Lily’s reaction after giving up a homer last night was priceless!

October Is Baseball

After an amazing 13 inning one-game playoff last night between the Rockies and Padres to see who the NL wild card winner was, the MLB postseason is finally upon us!

Two of our household favorites didn’t make the cut (Tigers, Mets), both after collapsing late in the season, but two other favorites safely navigated the regular season and won their divisions, keeping my ultimate World Series still in tact—Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs. But truthfully I’d be happy with anyone other than the Yankees. It all begins tomorrow.

Indians vs. Yankees (Thursday @ 6:30pm)
Red Sox vs. Angels (Wednesday @ 6:30pm)

Diamondback vs. Cubs (Wednesday @ 10:0pm)
Phillies vs. Rockies (Wednesday @ 3:00pm)

Let’s Go Cubs!!

Free Fall

On August 2nd, I posted on how cool it was that my three favorite baseball teams were all in first place. I failed to mention that Tonia’s team, the Mets, were also in first.

Now, a month and a half later, all four teams are backsliding to the point of free fall. Such a sad, sad day. There’s practically no way Boston doesn’t make it to the playoffs, but the other three are in serious doubt.

Trifecta

I woke up this morning to see my three favorite baseball teams (Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox) sitting in first place in their respective divisions. I’m not sure how often that has happened with these three, or how long that will last, but boy is it sweet.

BRING ON OCTOBER BABY!!

Pitchers & Catchers

Yesterday was the first official day for pitchers and catchers to report to Spring Training. I can remember vividly the great times I have enjoyed down in Arizona as the Cubs played catch. Another trip to Mesa is definitely in order in the next couple years. With that, here’s the latest on the Cubbies…

The Cubs announced a multiyear deal Wednesday with Under Armour, a sports apparel company, agreeing to place its logo and name on the outfield doors. This better be classy.

What’s new? Kerry Wood is hurt again. This time by simply getting out of a hot tub. Man, what a waste of talent.

It turns out that Carlos Zambrano is more bark than bite. I’m glad though. He’s a great addition to the Northsiders.

My man Alfonso Soriano showed up early to Spring Training. Gotta love that!

And former Cubs pitcher, Jon Lieber, shows us he’s not hurting for money. Showing up in at Philly’s camp with his 2-week-old Ford F650 SuperTruck, a customized blue-and-black beast, 9 feet, 2 inches tall and 25,000 pounds, with six doors, 45-inch wheels, seating for seven, a satellite dish and customized leather interior.

Here’s the best part. His four 50-gallon diesel tanks cost $500 to fill, though, at a thrifty 12 miles per gallon coming from a 300-hp Caterpillar engine, Lieber only used a quarter of a tank driving here from his home in Mobile, Alabama.

Full Circle

Do you know who won the 1984 World Series MVP? Did you know he’s the same guy that was the manager of the Tigers just last year? Did you know he just landed a nice new job with a guy named Lou?

That’s right, Alan Trammell, fired last year as the manager of the Detroit Tigers, was hired Monday as the Chicago Cubs’ bench coach for Lou Piniella.

“My wish was to get back on the field and Lou called me with this great opportunity,” Trammell said. “This came together very quickly. I’m thrilled it did because Lou has had a lot of success and he’s a good man.”

My best wishes to Alan, Lou, and the rest of the Northsiders!
