I nearly ran off the road laughing when I heard this on the radio yesterday. It almost makes me want to take up smoking. How do you suppose they find out who the scofflaws are?
Buying cigarettes out of state?
If Michigan officials find out about it, they’ll try to collect state taxes on the tobacco anyway.
More than 9,000 Michigan residents have been ordered to pay back taxes after buying cigarettes without paying the state’s $2 tobacco tax and 6 percent use tax.
Here’s an idea. Find a way to bring more jobs to the state. Shoot, we’d even settle with keeping the jobs we’ve got!
