Yankees Suck

Feeling pretty lousy this morning after another Cubs loss. I really wish their bats would heat up. They have to win 3 straight now, so the odds aren’t in our favor.

However, I discovered last night that I might possibly find more enjoyment watching anyone beat the Yankees than watching one of my own favorite teams win. Even the rival Indians. Let’s go tribe!

And Lily’s reaction after giving up a homer last night was priceless!

October Is Baseball

After an amazing 13 inning one-game playoff last night between the Rockies and Padres to see who the NL wild card winner was, the MLB postseason is finally upon us!

Two of our household favorites didn’t make the cut (Tigers, Mets), both after collapsing late in the season, but two other favorites safely navigated the regular season and won their divisions, keeping my ultimate World Series still in tact—Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs. But truthfully I’d be happy with anyone other than the Yankees. It all begins tomorrow.

Indians vs. Yankees (Thursday @ 6:30pm)
Red Sox vs. Angels (Wednesday @ 6:30pm)

Diamondback vs. Cubs (Wednesday @ 10:0pm)
Phillies vs. Rockies (Wednesday @ 3:00pm)

Let’s Go Cubs!!

Chicago: Food & Movies

The breakdown of the food and movies experienced on our Chicago trip.

Food
We were able to try out a few new eateries while in the windy city.

WishboneNorth Carolina Crab Cake, Jambalaya Cajun Stew. This place was actually pretty good. They call their food ‘Southern Reformation Cooking,’ and you get that feel. The decor was original and pretty interesting. The food was alright. I wasn’t overly ecstatic about the Jambalaya, but I could have eaten the Crab Cakes for a meal. They offered them as one actually. If I ever went again, that’s what I’d do.

I would probably have like this experience better had we not had to walk 2 miles in the bitter cold (one way) to get there. I’m afraid it didn’t get a fair shake. I’d go again. Prices were very reasonable.

Catch 35Seared Scallops w/ Szechwan Glaze, Maine Lobster w/ Spinach, Wild Mushroom Ravioli, Sweet Peas & Mushrooms in Cream Sauce. To be honest, I had visited this place once before a few years ago. It is an upscale Seafood restaurant (the kind where you check your coat) and they had live music and a nice open kitchen. The Scallops appetizer is on my top 3 foods of all time. The last time I ate there I was sharing with a lot of people. This time I had it all to myself and it was almost too much. The lobster was alright, I think I enjoyed the Wild Mushroom Ravioli a little more. Great place to visit. A little pricey, but worth it.

Chipotle – (Visited Twice) 1.) Fajita Burrito w/ Steak & Roasted Chili Corn Salsa, and Chips & Guacomale. 2.) Three Soft Tacos w/ Chicken & Tomatillo Red Chili Salsa, and Chips & Guacomale. From what I hear there is one of these in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti now. If you are familiar with the Qdoba franchise, you’ll find yourself right at home here. The food tasted great but the burritos were really hard to eat. They were HUGE! I’ll be going with the tacos from now on. The guacomale was out of this world however. Worth the trip by itself. For the money, it is a great place to visit. Look for a bill of $8.50 for lunch.

Giordano’sMedium pizza with sausage, green peppers, mushrooms & onions, and a 6-pack of Coke. Although we broke the cardinal rule and didn’t get a deep dish (accident actually), this pizza was great! And filling too. We had this delivered with a six-pack of Coke and I wish we could have had it twice. By the way, if you get a pizza in Chicago, you also have to make sure there is sausage on it! Our entire order was $24 and we had leftovers.

Movies
We brought a DVD player and some movies, and every night we watched a movie I had never seen before.

The Departed – This movie won four Oscars, including best film and best director for Martin Scorsese. It has an all-star cast and was GREAT. Not a kid film however. Lots of killing and very strong language.

Syriana – Yikes. I was really looking forward to watching this movie, but if Jasons snoring midway through lets you in on it’s entertainment value… I actually appreciated the message and the d r a w n – o u t plot, but I would have probably enjoyed watching something else instead. Not something I’d see again.

Brick – Never heard of this movie before we popped it in but wow. I loved this movie and I probably didn’t understand half the dialogue (you’d have to watch it to understand why). This is going on my wish list and I’d recommend it to anyone. Not really a kid movie either, but I can’t remember one swear word and only one person was shot. It mentions drugs a bit, but not by typical references.

Chicago: A Designers Delight

Being a die hard Cubs fan, you might expect me to love Chicago. But I’m a midwest country boy at heart. I don’t dig the big city lights. I get a special kind of anxiety walking around, trying to avoid the street people that remind me that this world is full of darkness and pain and suffering.

But after being in the city for only a few hours, I’m reminded why Chicago is so much different than any other big city I’ve been to and why I’m in the business I’m in. It is so rich in design—a virtual designers paradise. Even the newspaper dispensers are designed well.

Jason and I walked a few miles to a restaurant tonight and I just soaked up the architecture and design around every corner. My only regret is not having a camera with me. I came here with the intentions of learning more about Flash to help me in my job, but I think I’m going to be more inspired by the visuals that will surround me during my stay.

Note 2: My company supplied laptop did not come with Photoshop, so to size the above picture I downloaded a sweet (and FREE) Mac photo editing program called ImageWell.
