Former Secretary of State under George W. Bush, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, National Security Advisor under Ronald Reagan, and Retired General in the United States Army…
Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to say that this is a non-event.
I lover Colin Powell, I wish HE would run for president, but honestly his endorsement really doesn’t hold much weight politically.
He endorsed Dole (conservative Republican) in 96. Dole lost.
He endorsed Bush in 2000 (Republican). He barely won.
Will it affect the outcome? I honestly don’t believe so.
Here’s a good piece on why he did it:
LINK
@Russ – I can see how a conservative endorsing a conservative might be seen as a non-event. This is no such case.
@Jeff Slater – I guess everyone endorsing either party is simply for personal gain, right? I can play the cynical game as long as we do it 100% on both sides.
(And for the record, I don’t respect commentary from anyone that refers to Barack Obama as Barry, BO, or BRCK BM.)
@Russ: Powell’s endorsement was the main story on every single media outlet’s election coverage yesterday. I could be wrong, but I don’t think the GIANT headline on Drudge’s website yesterday read “Powell Endorsement a Non-Event.”
As far as endorsement’s go, this is about as big as they come. Powell was considered a potential running mate for McCain, and many Republicans have often expressed a desire for Powell to run for the Presidency himself. (As you just did.) He carries alot of weight politically.
His endorsement won’t move anyone on the far edges of the right. But it will likely accomplish two things:
1) Provide some validation for Republicans who are seriously considering a vote for Obama.
2) Sway some undecided voters Obama’s way.
Powell is one of the most universally respected government officials; past or present. His endorsement will give confidence to some who have reservations about Obama’s experience and ability to lead. Particularly in matters of foreign policy.
make no mistake. It’s a big deal.
Considering Barack Obama is a self-described friend of the anti-American terrorist, Bill Ayers, I see this as a degradation of Colin Powell’s military career and stature in American politics and less a statement on Obama’s candidacy.
Only those who view the world through the lens of Christ can see the evil in Barack Obama’s ideology.
I know for one I definitely don’t view the world through the lens of Christ.
*rolls eyes*
Well, I like to think I am looking at the world through Christ’s eyes and heart more and more each day, and from what scripture says, we ought to be a little careful throwing around phrases like you have, peak9, as they are used simply to incite bickering and fighting within Christianity*.
I would encourage you to use measure and a proper temperament when you are going to make comments that incite disagreement. If you are speaking on behalf of God, then you cannot disagree that this is a biblical approach to disagreement.
I am a Christian, a follower of God, and someone who will be voting for Barack in the upcoming election. Honestly, you can throw shots at me all you want, until it makes you feel better, or justified, or for whatever reason you have. We are well past the point where trivial name calling will be an effective tool for persuasive speech. My concern is how Christ is portrayed in such a conversation. If you believe you have a valid, biblical reason to feel the way you do, then by all means, use the scripture and reason to share your view.
If, however, you are just throwing the name of Jesus into a political debate for your own leverage, then I would kindly ask you to not do that, because that is a dangerous thing to do on your own part.

Just because every major media outlet covers a news story doesn’t mean its news worthy.
My point isn’t that Powell’s endorsement carries no weight for a particular party, but is that history shows that his endorsement does little for the candidate he endorses.
In my opinion, and it is indeed an opinion, it’s a case of a little too late.
And of course ever major media outlet is gonna cover it and cover it in a way that makes it look like closed case for Obama. The media has an obvious left bias.
I highly doubt Jesus would endorse either candidate (or any candidate).
peak9′s comments are extremely disappointing.
Viewing the world through the lens of Christ is about possessing God-given discernment. All Christians should have the ability to see through the bull the world puts out and discern what is good and what is evil.
The number one concern for Christian voters has to be a candidate’s character. Obama’s character, not his policies, is the reason why I rejected him long ago as a viable candidate. He has none.
Who cares about the populist jargon? Every candidate is going give you a tax plan, a healthcare plan, an economic plan, a foreign policy plan, an energy plan, etc. The populist message is always the same. The only thing that distinguishes politicians is character.
Obama is a robot. He is a puppet, but who is pulling the strings? We don’t know. His speeches are written by someone else and are spoon-fed to him by teleprompters. When Obama has been let loose to be his unscripted self, he has fallen flat on his face.
Obama even forgot he was a Christian during an interview with George Stephanopoulos. Obama’s Christian faith is a farce. It is political, going way back to his reasoning for joining Trinity. He is using you and you can’t even see the writing on the wall.
As a Christian I would never accept money from Planned Parenthood as Obama has. As a Christian I would never be friends with America haters, Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, as Obama has. As a Christians I would never accept the homosexual lifestyle as Obama has. As a Christian I would never defy the sixth commandant as Obama has. As a Christian I would never flip Hillary Clinton off during a debate as Obama did. As a Christian I would never support Satan’s latest pet project, global warming (remember global cooling? I didn’t think so), as Obama does. As a Christian I would never buy votes and engage in voter registration fraud as Obama has. As a Christian I would never support giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants as Obama does. As a Christian I would never slander my grandmother as Obama has. As a Christian I would never allow anyone to call me a messiah as Obama has. As a Christian I would never spend 20 years listening to Jeremiah Wright at Trinity United Church of Christ. As a Christian I would never say that many paths to God exist as Obama has. The list could go on and on.
Obama has no character and he has no conviction of faith. America is nation founded under God. It is a nation that is dying a spiritual death. Christians can either be a part of the remedy or fuel for the fire.
You want Scripture? Sorry. I will not take that bait.
Brandon’s comment is extremely disappointing.
To get back to the post’s content, Colin Powell’s endorsement means nothing for Obama. It is a vendetta against George Bush and the Republican Party. Like I said, it is a commentary on Powell himself and a degradation of his stature. He has lost my respect, not for his endorsement, but for using politics to release his personal animosity.
@peak9: Here’s the rub. You can say that as a Christian you are compelled in a certain direction. What you cannot say (without repercussion) is that to be a Christian someone must see something the exact same way that you do.
Because certainly I do not. And make no mistake, I am a Christ follower.
@Russ Hutto: I agree with you that because it’s covered in the media does not make it a big event. But again I believe that a high ranking Republican endorsing a Democrat is indeed a very big deal. (PS. I made it up to 4 miles running yesterday!!)
Awesome Russ, four miles is really good, keep it up!!!
Touchy subject, picking a candidate comes with so much emotion.
I not trying to tell anyone who to vote for. I just think Barack Obama is not getting a good look, particularly from Christians.
[...] Original Mud Puppy says, ?I don?t respect commentary from anyone that refers to Barack Obama as Barry, BO, or BRCK BM.? [...]
Obama IS getting a very thorough look from many Christians, myself included…in my humber opinion. As a Christian who is also Roman Catholic, I find him terribly lacking. Especially on the issues of abortion and infanticide.
But about Powell’s endorsement? Hmmm…Wasn’t he Bush’s point man about the Weapons of Mass Destruction? Yes. Was he wrong about that? Many would say so. So why trust his judgement now (about Obama), except that is a convenient thing to do.
