Christianity Fail

So what do christians do when their economy is crumbling? They pray for prosperity over a golden calf of course.

“We are going to intercede at the site of the statue of the bull on Wall Street to ask God to begin a shift from the bull and bear markets to what we feel will be the ‘Lion’s Market,’ or God’s control over the economic systems,” she said. “While we do not have the full revelation of all this will entail, we do know that without intercession, economies will crumble.”

In other news, James Dobson paints a good apocalyptic picture don’t you think?

Lord save us from your followers.

My First Race

Bison Stampede 5K Run — 26:11
October 25, 2008 / Searcy, Arkansas

Lessons learned from my first race:

→ Running early in the morning should be illegal.

→ If running with friends establish up front that it’s every man for himself.

→ Get a feel for the course prior to race day.

→ Carb loading for a 5K is probably unnecessary.

→ If you turn off your ipod for a second you will hear a stampede coming up behind you.

→ You’ll be lured by the pace of the masses.

→ You’ll constantly compare yourself to those around you.

→ You’ll run faster than you trained.

Movie Reviews

Leatherheads4/5 Really Liked It
Nice little movie roughly based on the beginning of professional football. George Clooney was definitely channeling Ulysses Everett McGill in this one, but I thought John Krasinski really did a bang up job. Good fun all around.

Kill Bill3/5 Liked It
You like blood squirting sword fights? This is your movie. It’s actually a typical Tarantino movie in its quirkiness and cinematic beauty, but also in the excessive language. Could have easily been a 4/5. Looking forward to Kill Bill 2.

Derailed3/5 Liked It
Watched on a whim on the Lifetime Movie Network. Not a bad little movie here. I’m always a big fan of Clive Owen, and it had enough twists to make it interesting as long as you don’t take it too seriously.

Mr. Brooks4/5 Really Liked It
Caught off guard with how much I liked this movie. Kevin Costner does an amazing job putting you into the mind of a serial killer. I loved the technique of having his alternate personality portrayed as another person. And there are two scenes that involve blood that will make you gasp.

Meet Joe Black3/5 Liked It
Man this could have been a much better movie had they cut it by an hour. I like the concept of it all, and the acting was really good, but holy toledo did I want this movie to finish like yesterday.

Smart People3/5 Liked It
Tons of unrealized potential in this movie. It felt a little rushed through, but the acting was superb and the message of the story was great as well. This one could have actually used about 20 more minutes of depth, especially at the end.

Hoot3/5 Liked It
Decent enough movie to watch with your kids (I recognized Jake from Hannah Montana). I love it when stars like Luke Wilson do roles like these.

The Forbidden Kingdom3/5 Liked It
This was your run of the mill kung fu movie. It had everything you could ever want. Just don’t try watching it when you’re tired. I guess I’m just a mildly interested fan of these types of movies. The Monkey King definitely needed more face time though. Loved him!

Bigger Than Us

Yep.

I still watch Hannah Montana on a regular basis.

Last night I heard again the lyrics to a great song. I sure wish I could find a version of just Billy Ray and his acoustic. Anyway, enjoy.

Bigger Than Us — Miley Cyrus

I see your face, I look in your eyes
What you feel is no surprise
Everyone needs something to believe in

Tell me your dreams and I’ll tell you mine
In our hearts we’ll look inside
And see all the colors of a rainbow
And I know

We all want to believe in love
We all want to believe in something
Bigger than just us
We all want to be a part
Of the greater picture
That’s hanging in our hearts
Yeah it’s bigger than us

I want to see beyond my own little world
Grab your hand so we can twirl around the galaxy
See the world with clarity
Oooo, oooo we have such a long way to go
But I know, we’re getting closer every day

We all want to believe in love
We all want to believe in something
Bigger than just us
We all want to be a part
Of the greater picture
That’s hanging in our hearts
Yeah it’s bigger than us

It fills the universe
Lights the skies above
And rescues all our hearts with love
With love…
That’s what’s bigger than us (bigger than us come on!)
It’s love it’s love that’s bigger than us
It’s love it’s love that’s bigger than us
It’s love it’s love it’s love it’s love it’s love it’s love
We all wanna believe in love
We all wanna believe something
Bigger than just us

Political Humor

John McCain and Barack Obama roasted each other at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner tonight. Some of the best television I’ve watched all year.

McCain’s Roast

Obama’s Roast

**UPDATE** I think it’s hilarious that the clips I grabbed for McCain are from Fox News, and the clip for Obama is from MSNBC.

That said, I’m going to start one now. It’s going to be more of a work in progress, but at least it’s a start. I’m not sure mine is going to be as ambitious as Heathers is though.
