Digital Converter

Time is running out to take advantage of the coupons the government is offering as a consolation for forcing us to switch to digital. You need to go to www.dtv2009.gov or call 888-DTV-2009 to sign up, and you’ll receive two coupons towards the purchase of an eligible converter box.

I’d say the majority of my readers don’t use rabbit ears for their television experience anymore, but you might know someone like my in-laws that just can’t give up that snowy experience. Or perhaps a sweet old lady in your church who could use one and doesn’t know to get the coupons (I’d use my grandma for an example, but she’s rocking some cable).

So go ahead and get those coupons and help someone out. And if it’s you that you’re helping out, go get you some cable or dish already!

I’m the last antenna user in Dallas I’m pretty sure. But we have no snow in Texas. We have 15 pure digital channels! For free! What a country!

Up until 2 weeks ago we had the ears, but I was tired of adjusting them everytime I changed the channel. We are getting a pretty good deal, cable and internet $60 a month for a full year.

Brandon, you’re not alone in DFW. I just made the switch last night. I won’t pay for crap (which is what I think of 99.999999999% of TV), so I’m still on rabbit ears. I did the whole “the government allowed me to have $40 of my own money back on a voucher” thing, and spent it on a converter yesterday.

It’s actually pretty cool. Nearly like having cable without the cable. The digital signal contains program info (like what’s coming up next), and none of the channels are fuzzy or snowy in the least. It seems that if it can pick the signal at all (some of my channels are only at 40% strength) the picture is crystal clear.

I did have some trouble picking up channel 8, which is funny since they brag so much about being first and best at everything.
