ESPN E-Ticket has a great article on one of my favorite athletes of all time—Bo Jackson. It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years already.

The Original Mud Puppy is a 36 year old Christ follower. Father of an amazing son. Husband of a woman that makes me a better person every single day. Book, music, and movie junkie. Avid runner. Part-time cook.

Bo is the whole reason I became (and still am) a Raiders fan. He was a freak of nature that I doubt we will ever see again. His biography was a great book too. A few years ago, a friend of mine that is in the sports memorabilia business (not OJ) asked me if I wanted to go to a autograph session with Bo. Problem is that it was $50! I didn’t go. He called me a few days later and said “I’ve got something for you”. Next time I saw him, he gave me a University of Aubrun Riddell mini helmet. It had Bo’s signature on it! One of my most treasured possessions. The fact that my friend did that was wicked cool too.
I remember seeing that in your office. Man, we really need to do some Chipolte again!
Anytime you want to see the Big House let me know.
I love Bo. I used to have a life-size poster of him. ha ha

Bo Jackson was back in Auburn on April 14th, 2012, to unveil his bronze look alike 10′ tall statue at our Heisman Trophy Ceremony, outside Jordan-Hare Football Stadium, along with the other 10′ statues of other HTW’s from Auburn: Pat Sullivan (1971), and Cam Newton (2010).
Bo’s, before the unveiling speech, gave a great off-the-cuff talk for about 15 minutes, about his days at Auburn, both as a great football player, but also his maturing from a young wild kid to the mature husband and father that he is today.
Thousands! of fans from all ages, were there for the ceremony, with hundreds lined up on top of a nearby parking deck to see and hear the ceremony.
I worked at Auburn University since 1976, until my retirement last year. All of us associated with the university are proud of Bo Jackson.
On April 24-28 Bo is riding his bike 300 miles for charity designated to the relief of Alabama’s tornado victims last year. He hopes to raise $1,000,000, with his bike tour ending in Tuscaloosa!
