It’s Payday!

I have the good fortune of being paid weekly. (There’s a joke in there I believe). Today happens to be the day our new insurance rates take effect. It made me sad to see just how little I take home compared to what I make. Here’s a breakdown of the robbery…

Insurance – 78.66
401K – 39.00
Life Insurance – 3.16
Federal Withholding – 61.51
OASDI- 43.48
Medicare – 10.17
State Withholding – 25.83

Total Deducted — $261.81

Every. Single. Week. Ugh. At least there’s always Johnny Kemp to cheer me up!

That’s an alimony payment to your sweet wife America that makes your house a home.

Except the insurance… That’s the price we pay for keeping all these stinking baby boomers alive for way too long. Can I get an “amen” on that one US automakers?

By my quick calculations, it looks like that’s in the ballpark of $13,500 annually.

By comparison, you get more money taken out of your paycheck than the median income of black households with single-mothers as the head. ($10,380 annually, according to the US Census)

So the next time you get sick looking at the deductions side of your pay stub, just think to yourself: “Millions of women are trying to raise their children on less.”

Ok wait. My previously quoted figures appear to be a little dated. But the most recent figure I can find has it at $15,000. Still in the ballpark.

Or you could look at it this way…

What is taken out of you weekly is more than a minimum wage earner makes in a 40 hour work week.

I have always wondered who sang that song. But who pays in change anyway?

Sucky.

At my house we are in the habit of praying “God thank you for (something that sucks) becuase it means (something good)”

Like “Thank you God that I have to pay all these taxes becuase it means I live in a America.”

Most often heard at my house,
“Lord, thank you for this screaming baby becuase it means we have Ashlyn in our lives.”

or when we’re really tired:

“Lord, thank you for this screaming baby becuase it means…um…something….good…but I can’t remeber.”

I didn’t invent this way of praying. We ripped it off from our awesome lead pastor.

shanebertou,

Here is the problem with your little boo hoo story of minimum wage earnings. You see in a study in 2005 only 2.5% of the workforce were minimum wage workers that being down from 15.1% when President Carter left office. Now don’t forget that half of that 2.5% are high school or college age. Another third of them are 55 or older retirees working to either keep busy or earn extra income. I believe with that consideration you are down to 0.2%. But that in itself is a overstatement because not included in those who are working part time. We also have to take into account the fact that some people…dare I say…are LAZY. The last category would be those who would actually qualify for assistance such as a disability. The fact is minimum wage was never a income to support a family with. I mean get real, if that is your highest aspiration in life well then you deserve to make minimum wage. That being said Russ….taxation with representation still sucks. We need less taxes in this country not more. Less taxes means more money in your pocket which in turn means more money in the economy and investments. In return means more revenue for the government.
