Faith. Hope. Love.

People don’t take your faith seriously? Do your friends or co-workers think Christians are a bunch of nut jobs?

I have no idea why…

I Love My iPod

Family Force 5, although primarily a drive-with-your-windows-down party band, has some really good messages in their lyrics. Here are a few lines from a song I was listening to while mowing the lawn Sunday. They lined up so perfect with some things I’ve been thinking about, as well as some things the ole pastor was talking about earlier that morning.

Friend, can’t you see I’m trying to help you out
But your mind is stuck on things
that leave you adrift with broken wings
You wanna talk about God Philosophy
I don’t think there’s anything wrong
I’ve got time, in fact lifelong
I think your walkin’ on broken glass
and I hope your not going down fast
And then you tell me that you think I’m wrong

Hey, don’t ever bring me back
To where I used to be
Cause now I feel so fine, and I feel so Peachy
Hey, don’t ever bring me back
To where I used to be
Cause now I feel so fine, and I feel so Peachy
Don’t bring me down
Cause I don’t have time for that anymore

I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.

Confessions Week: Gossip

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. —Ephesians 4:29

It was a week ago today that I posted about a favorite song of mine that included the lyrics, “I bet there’ll even be rumors floatin’ around on Judgment Day.” It’s sad, but so true. And I’m sure I’ll be a part of it. It’s just too easy to jump in and start throwing speculations around. Feeding on the newest juicy tidbit. Shrouding it in concern, when we all know it’s just gossip.

I wonder how many people have been hurt by my gossip? Like Curt Schilling mentioned in his post today about the bloody sock controversy (see link below), I could be using my abilities to build up and inspire, rather than tearing down.

Confessions Week: Lust

You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. —Matthew 5:27-28

Lust may be too strong a word. Maybe I should say wandering eye disease. Whatever you call it, I know I’m not alone in this as a man, but we seem to shy away from talking about it. We pretend it doesnt’ exist and that it’s not a problem, but it is. It’s so easy to fall into the trap. There is virtually no place you can go where sexual temptation is not available.

I honestly don’t believe sticking your head in the sand and avoiding all those things (you know like the internet, television, magazines…life) is going to help. It’s a deeper issue and it is only rectified with prayer. I know the times I find myself slipping, it’s almost always because my prayer life is lacking.

Say It Ain’t So, Schill

I look forward to seeing how this one plays out. To be honest it seemed too “hollywood” to be true at the time. It still may be true, but what are they going to do, send a CSI team out to test the sock?

BALTIMORE — The story of Curt Schilling’s famous bloody sock from the 2004 playoffs is turning into a bloody mess after a prominent broadcaster claimed one of Schilling’s teammates acknowledged the blood wasn’t real.

In the bottom of the fifth Wednesday night, according to The Boston Globe, Orioles play-by-play man Gary Thorne said on the air that he had been told by Red Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli that the substance was paint, not blood.

One of the very best things about blogging is being able to go back into the archives and read your life like a book. It’s like keeping a diary, but without the flowery notebook under your mattress with a key hidden in the sock drawer.

While browsing for a new “old” post I started wondering what happened to all the peeps that used to frequent this blog back then. Where did they all go? I don’t think it’s because they’re doing more than they were back then. It can’t be because I took some of them off the front page. Perhaps the wonder of the blog wore off. Maybe they don’t like me anymore. Maybe they’re laughing too hard to respond.

Whatever the reason, we sure had some good times back then…
