The Organic Church

Have you ever noticed how easy the movement of Jesus Christ is? It’s as simple as putting your time and effort into one person. Growing a relationship with them, opening your life up to them (and theirs to you), and sharing how Jesus changed your life. Then that person moves on and touches another person.

I’m not a scientist, but doesn’t it remind you of simple cell division? If you don’t think it works, just follow this little path that has always inspired me. Ron & Donna Dental just accepted a position as Ministry Leaders at NewSong. They started coming because their daughter and son-in-law (Ray & Sherry Drew) started attending. Ray & Sherry started attending because their neighbors (Chris & Kelly Nevins) asked them to come. Chris & Kelly started attending because their neighbors (Sam & Laura Walsh) invited them to come to church.

So, by the simple act of walking across the street, developing a relationship, and inviting someone to church, Sam & Laura created a strand of NewSong DNA that just keeps growing.

And that’s just one story, and not a complete one at that!

Media Day 2007

Today is the NFL’s Super Bowl Media Day. In what’s become a circus of media credentials that range from Sports Illustrated to E! Entertainment to Jay Leno, the mad rush is to see:

1) Who can get the best quote

and

2) Who can ask the weirdest question

So in honor of the day and without further ado… let the madness begin!

24: Season 6 (11:00am-12:00pm)

I really hope we get a little more of the back story between Jack and his brother. There’s a lot more there than mere sibling angst about a girl.

Anyone else feel like Nadia could end up being the token mole in CTU now that she has Mustache Milo’s access? Don’t. By doing such, FOX would cause a stir for creating a stereotype that anyone with a Middle Eastern decent is prone to be a terrorist. Look for a more likely scenario of Assad, a known terrorist, taking advantage of the situation.

I like Morris, love.

So, how crappy a job assignment is it to be a field agent assigned to back up Jack Bauer?

Russell the father of Tanner

… Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel the father of Abiud,
Abiud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
Azor the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Eliud …

Do you ever gloss over these sections of the Bible? In most cases they are trying to establish lineage lines for prophesies, but for those of us who already believe, what significance does it have? Try thinking about them in this light… we all are part of an ongoing story that has been going on since the beginning of time. How cool is that?

Friday Five

Success In A Nutshell Edition
Here are the next five of the many ‘Success In A Nutshell’ tidbits littered throughout a book called Nuts! Southwest Airlines’ Crazy Recipe for Business and Personal Success. It’s a book I had to read in Business School, and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading success stories, or stories about how to treat people better, or how to love, or humor, or the simple joy of a bag of peanuts.

1. Celebrate to make the mundane fun & unusual.

2. If you’re going to celebrate, do it right.

3. Say “THANK YOU” often.

4. Always celebrate people from the heart.

5. Make heroes & heroines of employees who glorify your company’s values.

(FYI – This will be a running feature until I get through all of the tidbits)

Caveman Commentary

What you have here is one of my favorite commercials. I love all of the Geico Cavemen spots and this newest one is great! The actors are so good, the plot lines are funny, and the genius part about it is that Geico has found the one group of people they can poke fun at without getting into trouble.

You may have noticed that advertisers are shy to make fun of any group of people these days so as not to get sued. Actually, you’ll find that the only group still not off-limits is the white male. They can make him look like a bafoon all they want. That’s kosher. Do a little test sometime and make a mental note of every time a white male is portrayed as an imbecile in a commercial or sitcom, while everyone else is brilliant. It bothers me (being a white male and all) that they can get away with that, but at the same time, I’m sort of proud that I can take it and still be alright.

Anyway, after watching some of the clips on YouTube, there were actually some commenting that even these were racist. Can you believe that? What are your thoughts?

Zap That Bacteria

We’ve all had our curiousities about microwaves. Some reading now have probably even done some experiments of their own involving a microwave. Turns out that some scientists are getting paid to experiment themselves. Apparently they discovered that if you microwave your dirty sponges for a good two minutes you can kill all the germs and bacteria (what does that say about the normal stuff you put in a microwave?). The only problem is that they forgot to mention that you have to wet the sponge first or you might burn your house down.

The university issued the following advisory: “To guard against the risk of fire, people who wish to sterilize their sponges at home must ensure the sponge is completely wet. Two minutes of microwaving is sufficient for most sterilization. Sponges should also have no metallic content. Last, people should be careful when removing the sponge from the microwave as it will be hot.”

Also in the news: Ovens heat things up, but please don’t put paper plates in them.
